Skateboarding shouldn't stop because someone can't afford a new deck.
Detour started as a name a crew of kids put on everything they touched.
Today it means usable skate equipment finds its way back to the streets, collected, checked, and handed to a local skater who needs it.
Everything that comes in gets checked before it goes back out. If it's not safe to ride, it doesn't leave our hands.
Give us equipment you no longer need: decks, trucks, wheels, bearings, hardware, grip tape. If it's usable, we want it.
We check, sort, clean, repair, and catalog what comes in. Anything unsafe gets pulled out or salvaged for parts.
Usable equipment goes to local skaters for free. No cost, no catch.
Detour Skate Initiative is not a 501(c)(3) or any other registered nonprofit organization. We're a group of skaters giving back to the community — nothing more, nothing less.
Equipment donations made to Detour Skate Initiative are not tax-deductible and carry no legal or financial benefits associated with charitable giving. Nothing exchanged through this initiative should be treated as a charitable contribution for any legal or tax purpose.

Detour is building the inventory, community, and events that will keep local skaters moving.
We don't have anything on the calendar yet. Once we do, real dates, locations, and photos from the events will show up in this section.
Detour started as a crew of kids who found each other through skating in a small town, kept mostly to themselves, and put the name on everything they touched: shirts, stickers, notebooks, whatever they had a Sharpie for.
It was never a real team. No competitions, no sponsors, just kids skating whatever they could find and looking out for each other. When someone broke a deck, everyone felt it, because that person couldn't skate with the crew anymore. So they asked around and made sure nobody got left behind.
That's the idea the modern Detour Skate Initiative is built on. We're a small, local effort covering Ogden to Salt Lake City, no corporate backing, just skaters making sure a broken deck doesn't cost someone their place with their crew.
A crew of kids who made their own path.
Helping the next kid stay on theirs.
